I'm Hannah & I'm An Addict

Help me.. I’m addicted to tea!! And cheese!!
Well, it’s not really “tea”. I’m not sipping on 12 cups of earl grey a day nor am I sat at work munching my way through a block of cheddar. It’s called tea, some of it IS tea and some of it’s not.. and there’s “cheese” on top. In liquid form. It’s delicious.

Here’s a photo I stole from the internet so you can see what I’m raving about. You pick the drink – usually green, jasmine, oolong or some kind of tea BUT it can also be a fruit smoothie – and you can have it with or without the cheese – which is the white stuff on the top. I’m pretty sure it’s made with condensed milk (not particularly nutritious but it is so delicious) though it does taste a little bit like liquid cheesecake (you’re interested now.. aren’t you πŸ˜‰). Whatever goes into it has got me hooked, as well as every other person with tastebuds in Guangzhou. There are countless shops selling different variations of this stuff all over the city and each one seems to have a permenant queue. I’ve heard rumours that the biggest chain, HeyTea, has queues lasting around 1-1&1/2 hours on most weekends. I did also read that they pay people to stand in the queue to make it look busy.. madness!!!
Besides the unspeakable amount of tea I’ve consumed over the last week we’ve had a pretty average 7 days. Work, Chinese lessons (which we’ve now split into 2 separate 1&1/2 hour lessons per week – IT’S AMAZING) and the capture of a gigantic cockroach in our apartment. You might remember reading that we had one a few months back which seemed to bugger off after a few days, well this one was not the same roach. This cockroach ate the other cockroach and some of his family members for breakfast. Luckily we still had some of the little “roach motel” boxes left over from the last episode so we hastily put them out and shoved a towel under the door so it couldn’t escape. We caught the little bastard over night πŸŽ‰ but the terrifying thing is that  Toby spotted it when it ran out of our bedroom into the spare room.. I don’t even wish to know how long it had been hanging around in there for..
On Saturday night we went to an area in the city called The Party Pier. I’d heard about it from a few people and also read some articles online so I was intrigued to experience it myself. It’s basically a street along the river and there’s lots of different restaurants, bars and clubs. I don’t know if it was the timing (we are like small children and usually eat dinner around 6:00-7:00pm) or the weather (it was chucking it down) but the place was eerily quiet. The design of the area itself though was pretty cool.

It’s built amongst an old brewery so there are little boutique shops and restaurants nestled in some of the disused brewing towers (I don’t know what you would actually call them, but they were concrete and shaped like towers, so that’s what I’ll call them). We had dinner at a pretty standard restaurant and then found ourselves in a tiki bar – alone πŸ˜‚ like I said, there didn’t seem to be anybody else around! Despite the dull atmosphere we had a few amazing cocktails served in cups that look faces carved out of wood and blueberry shisha (which is fun for the first 10 or so minutes but then I always seem to forget what I’m doing and end up inhaling/swallowing the smoke.. not pleasant). I’d definitely go back to the area again, perhaps when it’s not raining in the hopes that it becomes a bit livelier!

In other news we’ve finally booked part of our honeymoon πŸŽ‰β€ we’ll have to wait another 6 months for it but I’m already so excited! Since we’ve been lucky enough to go on some incredible beach holidays over the years we decided to do something a little bit different – winter in Japan! I’ll have to re-download my countdown app onto my phone..
We’re still (not so) patiently waiting for our wedding pictures from the photographer, fingers crossed they turn up over the weekend! I hope you all have a good one XO
