6 Months & Going Strong

You know when you’ve been on an incredible holiday – imagine your favourite one – and you get back home and feel kind of down in the dumps? That’s exactly how I feel this week X100 because it wasn’t just an incredible holiday 😭 I did some good old symptom checking on Bing and apparently it’s completely normal for a (no longer.. ouch) bride to feel a bit mopey once it’s all over.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still firmly on cloud 9 and totally loving married life so far, which feels exactly the same as it did before *SPOILER ALERT* but I’m suddenly at a loss as to how to spend my free time in the evenings. Crap, I need to send the seating arrangement to our venue. Nope. Oh my god we still haven’t decided our music for the ceremony. Yes you have, you’re being stupid. I need to find myself a new hobby, one that doesn’t involve Pinterest as it’s still filling my home page with cake toppers and hair-do suggestions. HOW INSENSITIVE!!
After 3 weeks off our brains struggled through our Chinese lesson on Saturday morning, to the point where we couldn’t string together a simple sentence towards the end. We knew the words and I could give you the sentence right now (if you could hear me, luckily you can’t) but all of my remaining brain cells were focusing on reminding me how to breathe.
It finally feels like we’re moving forward though and learning useful words and phrases. For weeks we’d only been practising sounds and tones, which are important, but it feels like we’re getting the hang of sentence structures and sayings that will actually come in handy during day to day life. I do still need to work on my confidence to speak to people – we learnt a tongue twister a few weeks ago (something about a rabbit with a big belly.. I don’t know) and I said the first line of it to a colleague who just stared at me blankly and laughed. Of course she wasn’t being mean, she’s our biggest cheerleader when it comes to practising our Chinese in the office, but I can’t say it gave me much encouragement to keep trying 😂
Since this is our first full week back in real life we decided to go full speed and schedule a 5:20am wake up call on Monday. We were going to go to our usual early Crossfit class. Didn’t happen. We woke up around 3am and it was absolutely chucking it down outside so we both thought “hell no, we’ll go tomorrow instead.” Tuesday morning came around and the alarm went off – Toby got up and I stayed in bed. The moral of this story is I’M NOT READY FOR REAL LIFE YET 😩 I want to go back to our bubble and lay by a pool. The only comfort I can take from this is that most of our friends and family are also feeling the same way.. sorry guys!

This photo kills me….
On a positive note (there has to be one to avoid this post being completely miserable) it’s been 6 months today since we arrived in China. 6 MONTHS!!! And to top it off it’s a beautiful day..

We’ve actually survived here for half a year. It was pretty touch and go for me around the 3 month mark so I’m extremely proud of us for making it this far. And the best part?! It feels like it’s gone so quickly, we’ve learnt so much and we’re actually enjoying it these days.. (most of the time) 😉 I’m excited to see where the next half of 2017 takes us as Husband & Wife ❤
Now it’s time to begin my search for a new hobby, if you have any sensible suggestions go ahead and throw them my way – winner receives £100 (just kidding I have no money after paying for a wedding) XO

Hey Hannie, your calligraphy efforts were promising. Reach for your pen set and see how far it takes you. There are loads of lessons online too 😊 Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Papalapa xxxx

Yes I am finding it hard to get in to the pub cleaning life again. I just feel like going away again. So have decided to start painting the house again. So when you come and stay, nice new painted spare room. Do you like sewing or knitting. Or another sport perhaps xx
